Editing techniques for the mini brief

The first editing technique which needs to be used in the mini brief is called, shot-reverse-shot. This editing technique is mainly used to show the emotion during a conversation. This allows you to build a relationship between two characters during a film.

Another editing technique is match on action. This is when two shots are matched together- an example is when someone is waiting to walk through a door. The first shot could show them face on through the door (this will show their emotion), whereas the second shot could show the back of them actually walking through the door.

Finally, the last editing technique is the 180 degree rule. This rule states that the camera cannot cross an imaginary line. This is so that the shots look more fluid and the viewer can establish a relationship between the characters. This is done through the 180 degree rule as the viewer is able to see who is talking to eachother due to where the characters eyes are looking in respect to the camera.
