Why are horror film budgets so low?
Horror movie budgets are set low as the companies producing them know that they can reach a large target audience through horror films even though they do not spend the most amount of money. This is because horror films are watched by teenagers up until they are adults. For example, comedy movies become outdated and are not always funny as you get older however, with a horror film no matter what your age you will potentially be scared by the film if it includes your specific fears. The low budget evidently works as Paranormal activity made $107 million from a budget of $15,000 which shows the producers that as long as the film draws in the attention of the audience, spending mass amounts of money on the film is not a necessity.
The budget of the films varies massively as shown from the table. The lowest budget it $15 thousand and the largest budget is $20 million. This shows the budget is not very important as they are still make at least a $50 million profit at the box office.
