Passive audience theories

Effects theory-
For the effects theory to work the audience has to be passive, they must take all meanings of the text literally. The effects theory usually has a negative effect on as the audience do not have the power to stop themselves believing the text. This means that the power lies within the text.

Hypodermic needle-

The hypodermic needle theory suggests that the audience is injected with information from the text that they believe. The media's message is like a drug to them.

We do not intend to use this in our film as we do not want our audience to be passive as we have set out the film with the aim of encoding it with hidden messages which they have to decode therefore we want them to be an active audience.
